The Cate boys finished first in their heat and the girls second in theirs, to complete an outstanding day for the Rams at the CIF-SS Prelims at Mt. SAC on Friday.

Senior Kendall Thorne led the Cate girls with a 4th place finish in 20:30, followed by sophomore Francesca Sutch (7th in 20:54), Freshman Jen Won (8th in 20:58), Senior Lylie Bechtel (10th in 21:14), and Sophomore Maddie Patrick (14th 21:50).

In the boys’ race, Cate juniors Seb Sutch and Everest Schipper finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, with times of 16:43 and 16:52.

Senior Harry McAdam was 13th in 17:41, junior Oliver Lee 23rd 18:15), and junior George Gordan rounding out the top 5 in 26th place in a time of 18:24.

“Five of our seven girls ran PRs today, and faster than they did at the Mt. SAC invitational earlier this season.” Rams coach Tim Weir said. “In the boys race, six of our seven ran PRs and improved their times from the Mt. SAC race.

“It is so exciting to see their hard work paying off. They are peaking at the right time and we are optimistic going into next weekend’s Finals.”

The top four teams from each of the four heats advanced to the CIF-SS Finals next Saturday, November 19. Out of the 16 teams that qualified for the finals, the Cate girls team is ranked 4th and the boys 3rd heading into the finals.

The girls race will begin at 8:05 a.m. and the boys race will be at 8:45. The top seven teams at the CIF-SS finals qualify for the State Championships in Fresno on Saturday November 26th.
