The Cate girls cross country team finished third in the CIF-SS Division 5 championships and booked a spot in the State Championships on Saturday.

The Rams scored 93 points to place behind Viewpoint (63) and Xavier College Prep (79) at the divisional championships at Mt. San Antonio College.

Senior Kendall Thorne was Cate’s top finisher, placing 13th in 19:50.5. Francesca Sutch came in 17th (20:02) and was followed by Genevieve Won (26th, 20:36), Lylie Bechtel (29th, 20:44.8), Madeleine Patrick (40th, 21:21.8), Coco Kliman (44th, 21:33.4) and  and Emily Allison finished in 22:45.

“Kendall has been running very well lately and she really wanted to break 20 minutes in her last attempt on the Mt. SAC course.” Coach Tim Weir said, “We are thrilled that she was able to do that. Kendall is a tremendous leader and has had great success over her four years at Cate. The girls all had great races and are excited to head to Fresno for the second straight year.”

The Cate boys finished 10th and missed qualifying. Junior Seb Sutch came in seventh place in 16:07 and Everest Schipper was 16th (16:41.9).
