Firefighters quickly doused a small vegetation fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon in the chaparral near Lompoc.
Shortly after 2 p.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the Lompoc Fire Department were dispatched to the incident near Via Orilla and Rucker Road, Capt. Scott Safechuck said.
Firefighters found a small fire burning in grass and brush, but said it was spreading slowly.
Crews reported that the fire had blackened one-quarter of an acre by the time they stopped the forward progress, and estimated that it had the potential to grow to one acre.
No structures were threatened and there were no reported injuries due to the fire, Safechuck added.
An investigator was called to the scene to determine how the fire started.
