The Carpinteria boys volleyball team made history on Monday by receiving the No. 1 seed in its division for the CIF-SS playoffs.
The Warriors (16-7, Citrus Coast League champions) are the top team in Division 5. They open the playoffs on Thursday against the winner of a wild-card match between Crossroads and Salesian.
Five other local teams also begin their playoff runs on Thursday.
Defending Division 2 champion Santa Barbara is competing in Division 1 this year. The Dons (19-7), co-Channel League champions, host Redondo Umion (20-4), the runner-up in the Bay League.
San Marcos (24-7), which won a share of the Channel League title for the first time since 2014, will be home for a Division 2 opener against Valencia (15-8), a runner-up from the Foothill League.
In Division 3, Laguna Blanca, the Tri-Valley League champion (16-4) gets a home match against Oxnard (10-11), the No. 2 team from the Pacific View League. Also in the division, Dos Pueblos (16-8) travels to Whittier to play California High (19-12), the Del Rio League champion.
Bishop Diego (9-16, TVL No. 3) plays its Division 4 opener in Santa Ana against Segerstrom (15-6), the champion of the Golden West League.
Second-round matches will be played on Saturday.
