Consuelo Haro Cardenas, age 87, passed away peacefully on Aug. 10, 2020, due to complications of pneumonia. She was born April 11, 1933 in Jalisco, Mexico, to the late Fransisca and Nicolas Haro.
She married the love of her life Modesto Torres Cardenas, on June 20, 1954, who preceded her in death in 2008 after 54 years of marriage.
She is the loving and devoted mother of her three daughters and two sons Bonnie Arkush of Santa Maria, Rosa Tinsley (Kirk) of Arizona, Arturo /Art Cardenas (Sheila) of Santa Maria, David Cardenas (Pascal) of Washington, Alicia Cardenas-Trigueros of Santa Maria; 17 grandchildren Christina Dulay, Erica Alvarez, Stephen Alvarez, Christopher, Eric, Cory and Carly Tinsley, Patricia Torres, Adrianna and Jacob Cardenas, Joseph, Katrina and Johnathan Cardenas, Victoria, Michael, Angel and Destiny Trigueros; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Consuelo is survived by her four sisters Esther Novoa, Flora Pelayo (Jesus), Grace Nunez, Sara Zarate; brother Robert Haro; four sisters-in-law Phyllis Serna, Aurora Buentiempo, Dolores Sparks and Alice Chayra.
She was also preceded in death by daughters Patricia Cardenas-Reiswig in 2015, and Esperanza Cardenas in 1959 who died shortly after birth, and son-in-law Albert A. Arkush in 2019.
Our mother was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, was a homemaker, and was busy raising children. She worked at Waller Seed Company, John Engels and Pic-Sweet, belonging to the Teamsters Union for more than 20 years. She was a resident of the Santa Maria Valley for more than 70 years.
Consuelo was someone who had a love of life; her wit and sense of humor could make anyone fall in love with her. A farm girl at heart, gardening and country life were her passion. She enjoyed cooking for and spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
