The name has been released of a motorcyclist killed Tuesday in a Lompoc Valley crash involving a second vehicle.
Miguel Angel Salas, 26, of Lompoc died in the incident that occurred on Purisima Road at Mission Gate Road, according to Raquel Zick, spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Coroner’s Bureau.
Just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, along with the California Highway Patrol, were dispatched to the incident near the entrance to La Purisima Mission State Historic Park.
The crash occurred after Lawrence Li, 67, of Lompoc was driving a Volkswagen north on Mission Gate Road and made a left turn onto Purisima Road to travel west, CHP Officer Keith Rogers said.
For unknown reasons, the eastbound rider was ejected from the Kawasaki motorcycle and collided into the front of the Volkswagen, Rogers added.
Salas had fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact CHP officers based in Buellton by calling 805.688.5551.
Salas’ death was one of two involving motorcyclists involved in crashes on Tuesday in Santa Barbara County.
On Tuesday evening, a 70-year-old Santa Barbara man, whose name has been released, was killed when his motorcycle drove off Highway 154 near Paradise Road.
The motorcyclist was eastbound on the highway when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the double yellow lines and traveled into the westbound lanes, the CHP said.
