Professional counselor and public speaker Kelly Jameson will offer her wisdom to parents, students and teachers at a free public presentation at Marymount of Santa Barbara, at noon Monday, Feb. 3, in the Marymount multipurpose room. A light lunch will be provided.
As a specialist in adolescence and parent consultations, Jameson’s presentation will offer tips for raising resilient kids.
“When it comes to raising our kids, in today’s culture it’s a true partnership between home and school,” said Christina Broderick, Marymount head of school. “The research tells us and at Marymount we believe that the social and emotional well-being of our students and families as well as our faculty creates the highest level of engaged learning possible.”
Jameson is known for her relatable style and use of humor to engage younger minds. She will be speaking to 6th-8th graders during a separate presentation. Students will learn how birth order can play a role in their lives and how the power of a positive mindset can help them foster individual growth.
At the end of the day, Jameson will talk with teachers about how self-care can aid them in being the best version of themselves.
Jameson spoke at Marymount last year to parents, students and teachers about The Developing Brain and Stress, providing insights as how to best serve the student community.
“As a former teacher and current parent herself, Dr. Kelly Jameson has an extraordinary ability to walk and talk her audience (whether parents or teachers) through the best ways to encourage the practice of healthy family relationship-building both on and off campus,” Broderick said.
The event is part of Marymount’s Speakers Series, in which the school invites experts in all things education to come and share their knowledge to serve the community and help parents, educators and school administrators improve the lives of children.
Past speakers have included Paul Tough, Jessica Lahey, Michael Thompson, Wendy Mogel and Katie Hurley.
Parking for the event is free and available at 2130 Mission Ridge Road. For more information and to RSVP, email info@marymountsb.org or call 805-569-1811 ext. 131.
