Dos Pueblos wore down Channel Islands with its defense and took a 57-38 girls basketball win on Wednesday at the Fillmore Tournament.

The defensive pressure from Leila Chisholm and Ariana Tapia forced several turnovers that DP turned into baskets for a double-digit lead in the third quarter. Ava Sommer also played a key role in the third quarter as she intercepted back-to-back CI passes that led to two quick buckets.

Three-point shots by Lily Mires and Ashley Gerken allowed the Chargers to pull away to their fifth straight win.

Coach Phil Sherman praised the play of senior Olivia Roark, who provided a spark in the first quarter with six straight points.

“Olivia Roark’s play on both ends of the court inspired us,” said Sherman. “Mikayla Butzke was a force in our zone defense with eight rebounds and three blocked shots.”
