The San Marcos defense held Santa Ynez scoreless in two periods and beat the Pirates, 13-9, in a Channel League boys water polo game on Wednesday at San Marcos.

The CIF-SS Division 2 top-ranked Royals led 3-0 after the first period, 9-3 at halftime and blanked the Pirates 3-0 in the third period to take a commanding 12-3 advantage.

Nic Prentice, Hank Jessup and Luke Burns each scored three goals for San Marcos (8-5, 1-0), which was playing its Channel League opener.

Addison Hawkins had three goals, three steals, an assist and a field block for Santa Ynez (10-9 overall, 0-2 Channel League). Landon Lassahn also scored three goals and had three steals.

Santa Barbara 18, Cabrillo 4

Jerrad Burford had six goals and three steals in the Dons’ Channel League water polo win over Cabrillo.

Steven McDonald and Mateo Obando had three goals each.  John Shafer had a goal and five assists and goalie Jaxon Burford made eight saves and scored two goals. 

Santa Barbara (2-0 in league) hosts San Marcos next Wednesday.
