The defense got it done for the Dos Pueblos girls soccer team in a scoreless draw with visiting Rio Mesa on Tuesday.

“Great season opener for the girls,” said DP coach Seth Asuncion. “They all work extremely hard and gave everything they had.”

Asuncion cited the defensive work of senior Sasha Runyen and Payton Walker. “They were able to command the defense and halt Rio Mesa’s attack,” he said.

On the offensive end, Sadie Stout and Gizela Zermeno controlled the midfield and generated good scoring chances.

“They were creating a wealth of opportunities for our forwards,” Asuncion said. “We weren’t able to find the back of the net tonight, but if you don’t shoot you won’t score and soon enough we will find the back of the net.”
