A man who robbed a Buellton liquor store at gunpoint Thursday evening was able to elude capture by sheriff’s deputies, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.

The robbery occurred shortly before 6 p.m. at Houston’s Liquors on the 400 block of Avenue of the Flags, said Raquel Zick, sheriff’s public information officer.

The robber, who was wearing a black-brimmed baseball hat, a Columbia-brand black hooded sweatshirt, and dark shorts, was last seen northbound behind the business, Zick said.

“Please call 9-1-1 if you see this suspect,” Zick said in a tweet. “Suspect is considered dangerous — do not approach.”

Residents were asked to shelter in place as K-9 units searched the area on the ground, with a county helicopter overhead.

“After an exhaustive search, deputies lifted the shelter in place,” Zick said.

The investigation into the robbery was continuing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 805.681.4100.
