Santa Barbara High went 7-2 in singles and 7-2 in doubles on Thursday to post a 14-4 win at Newbury Park in the girls tennis season opener.

Two of the three doubles teams swept the Panthers and senior captain Hannah Mendez and Natalie Brewer played steadily and aggressively.

“Hannah’s first serves were penetrating while Natalie did a fine job taking initiative on her volleys,” said SBHS coach Danny Echt. “Junior No. 1 Sophia Ostovany managed her game very well today and swept her sets. She played a strong serving No. 1 opponent and showed patience getting herself established in baseline rallies.”

Ostovany won all three of her sets as did the doubles team of Koko Kelly and Charlotte Ryan.

The Dons will make their home debut on freshly resurfaced courts on Tuesday against Cate School.
