Defense paved the way for the Dos Pueblos boys volleyball team in a 25-15, 25-15, 23-25, 25-23 win over Fontana in CIF-SS Division 4 second-round playoff match on Saturday at Sovine Gym.
Three players recorded 10 or more digs, and the Chargers totaled 14 team blocks against the champions of the Sunkist League.
“The team played dedicated defense tonight,” said DP coach Ehren Hug. “It was a gritty and hard-fought match from our seniors especially. The coaches and I are so proud of their leadership and effort today.”
Senior setter Wyatt Silver led the defensive charge with 14 digs and four blocks. He also served three service aces, chipped in four kills and dished out 38 assists.
Senior Kawin Ramko notched a double-double of 12 digs and 10 kills. He also had a pair of blocks and an ace. Senior outside hitter Nathan Vincent picked up 10 digs, delivered seven kills, two blocks and two aces. Ben Wojobe was the blocking leader with five
Senior Noah Grant was the leader of the DP attack, pounding 19 kills.
The Chargers (18-6) will play in the quarterfinals on Wednesday against either Thousand Oaks at home or Crean Lutheran on the road.
