The Dos Pueblos girls water polo team overcame a tough shooting day and defeated El Segundo, 9-7, in a CIF-SS Division 1 first-round playoff game on Wednesday at El Segundo

After falling behind 3-1, the Chargers managed to pull even with the Eagles at halftime, 4-4.

Dos Pueblos took a three-goal lead (8-5) in the third period and held off the hosts to improve to 16-11 on the season and earn a home game for the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Dos Pueblos will host Santa Margarita at 1 p.m. Santa Margarita advanced with 10-7 win over Mira Costa.

Harvard-bound Emma Gilbert led the Chargers with five goals followed by Ava Bennett with two. Addison Parrish and Alina King each added one goal.

Goalie Megan Garner stopped eight El Segundo shots.
