Chloe Hoffman and Lucy Speier record double-doubles and Makeila Cervantes hit for double figures, powering the Dos Pueblos girls volleyball team to a four-set win over Ventura in a Channel League-openng girls volleyball mach at Sovine Gym.
Supported by a loud student section, the Chargers overcame a second-set loss and won their first home match, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 25-13.
“We got incredible leadership from our seniors who helped elevate the play of our team,” said coach Megan O’Carroll. “Our setter, Hallie Rillie, played her best match of the season, making some really smart plays and being an offensive threat herself.
“Our three-headed monster of Chloe, Lucy, and Makeila were all lethal on the net and scored us a ton of points. Both our middles, Addison Low and Elena Andrews, were excellent on the net and got some critical blocks and block touches for us.”
Hoffman was the DP leader with 19 kills and 13 digs. She also served four aces. Speier had 11 kills and 13 digs and Cervantes added 11 kills.
Rillie was all over the court. She dished out 37 assist, had seven kills and eight digs. Malia Brofferio picked up 11 digs.
“We’ve been harping on an all-out mindset on defense, and I think our back row really embodied that tonight,” said O’Carroll. “We were scrappy on everything and made an effort to get to every ball.”
Dos Pueblos improves to 5-2 overall. The Chargers play at Buena on Tuesday.
