Dos Pueblos dropped a 1-0 decision against an undefeated Pioneer Valley boys soccer team in Santa Maria on Thursday.
“Great game played tonight against a high-quality team,” said DP coach Matt York. “Pioneer Valley came in undefeated and you can absolutely see why. They play intelligently and together as a unit. But our team was able to control time of possession for the game.”
Dos Pueblos (5-2) created a quality scoring chance in the 55th minute but the shot was smothered by Pioneer Valley’s goalkeeper.
Pioneer Valley scored in the 64th minute off a crossing ball from the right flank.
DP pressured to score the equalizer and drew a penalty kick in the 79th minute.
“Once again, their goalie set up for them and made a great save to keep us out of the scoring column and lose a chance of the tie,” said York.
The coach praised play of senior defensive midfielder CJ Rodriguez.
Dos Pueblos is putting on an alumni soccer game on Saturday between former Chargers players and Santa Barbara High alums at 1 p.m. at Scott O’Leary Stadium. Admission is free but donations are encouraged. The donations will support the two boys soccer programs.
