Dos Pueblos lost two one-run games against St. Bonaventure in a non-league softball doubleheader on Saturday. The scores were 8-7 and 5-4.

In both games, the Chargers fell behind, mounted late rallies to come back and fell short in the end.

Dos Pueblos roared back from a 7-0 lead in the opener. Paulina Avina belted a three-run homer to left field to start the comeback. In the fifth, Ashley Gerken hit a two-run single and Avina doubled in two runs to tie the score. She finished with five RBI.

St. Bonaventure scored the winning run in the seventh.

The Seraphs got a 12-strikeout performance from their pitcher in the nightcap.

Down 5-0, Leila Chisholm hit a two-run double in the fourth inning.

The Chargers pulled to 5-4 in the seventh on two walks and RBI singles by Riley Monroe and Georgia Wilson. They loaded the bases and Avina hit a hard line drie to left. But the Seraphs’ left fielder made the catch to end the game.

“I really thought she walked it off in her last at-bat in game two,” said DP coach Mike Gerken of Avina. “Pau had a great game offensively and defensively. She might be the most positive, optimistic girl on the team and she takes that to the plate with her.”

Dos Pueblos is 8-4 on the season.
