Dos Pueblos couldn’t hold off a second-half surge by The Bishop’s of La Jolla and dropped a 13-8 non-league girls water polo game on Saturday at the Elings Aquatic Center.

Down 7-4 at halftime, Bishop’s outscored the Chargers 9-1 in the second half.

Despite the loss, DP coach Bryan Snyder was pleased with his team’s effort against a quality opponent.

“We played a lot better overall both offensively and defensively,” he said. “We were communicating well and sticking to our system. We wore down in the second half and they were able to get a couple goals late to seal the game, but overall I was very pleased with our effort.”

Kelly Meckelborg scored three goals and was a dynamo on defense for DP with eight steals. Shannon Connolly had two goals and drew five ejections.

Dos Pueblos (4-6) returns to action Jan. 9 in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.
