Dos Pueblos girls basketball coach Phil Sherman called the Chargers’ 33-21 win at Cabrillo on Thurday night “a war of attrition.”

Dos Pueblos managed to pull away in the fourth quarter and improved to 4-1 in league and 14-3 overall.

“These teams tend to bring the worst out in each other when they play,” he said. “The first quarter saw the teams combine for 10 points. The trend continued for the duration of the game. Neither team could solve the defensive strategy of the opponent.”

Leila Chisholm scored 15 points to lead Dos Pueblos.

“Leila made a three-pointer every time the  Conquistadores made a run,” said Sherman.

Lily Mires was a force inside, grabbing 14 rebounds and blocking six shots. She also dished out six assists.

“Lia Papador once again came up big in the fourth quarter, scoring six point and pulling down four rebounds,” said Sherman.

The Chargers travel to San Marcos on Saturday for a showdown with the 5-0 Royals.
