Dos Pueblos put together a strong performance and defeated Saugus, 2-1, in a non-league girls soccer match on Thursday in Saugus.

Precious Nwosu and Barbara Gonzalez scored for the Chargers (1-2), and the back line of Payton Walker, Sasha Runyen and captains Emilia Kling and Bella Vasquez turned in a solid game.

Newton scored a tying goal in the first half  “on an outstanding individual effort,” said coach Seth Asuncion.

The second goal came off a nice sequence between Gizela Zermeno, Kam Pickett and Gonzalez.

“Kam Pickett and Gizela Zermeno had an awesome game,” Asuncion said. “Their ability to win balls in the middle of the field, connect passes and get in on the attack changed the tempo of the game for us.”

Asuncion added: “Despite going down early, the girls showed resilience and composure to stay engaged in the game which led to the win.”
