Julia Schniepp, a senior member of the Dos Pueblos girls golf team, is the recipient of the Russ Morrison Memorial Golf Scholarship, the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table announced.
Schniepp played three years of varsity golf, and consistently scored in the 40s in the nine-hole matches during her senior season.
She is a standout in the classroom, carrying a 4.4 grade-point average. Her favorite subjects are the sciences, with an emphasis in health-related courses.
For college, she is going to Long Beach State to study nursing.
She already has dabbled in the medical field as a volunteer at Cottage Hospital, where she has put in more than 200 hours of service.
Her duties have included discharging patients, guiding people around the facilities, and assisting doctors and nurses.
She has overcome some health-related challenges to get to where she is today. Those struggles led her to pursue a career in the medical field.
“I am confident that I will be happy if I pursue this career,” she said. “That is not only what keeps me going, but also what excites me for the future.”
