The Dos Pueblos Little League 10-Under All-Stars saw their winning ways continue in the So Cal State Tournament, as they opened it up with a 13-6 win over Vineyard Little League on Saturday.
After a back-and-forth game left the matchup locked at three through four innings, DPLL broke it open with an eight-run fifth inning where they sent 12 batters to the plate.
In the slugfest of a fifth inning, James Chou opened the scoring with a two-run double to give DPLL a 5-3 lead. After Chou scored on a wild pitch and three walks loaded the bases, Zane Pflanzer tallied a two-RBI single to right to bring their lead to 8-3.
But the scoring didn’t end there, as Juan Meza got in on the fun with an RBI single of his own, Isaiah Estrella drove in two runs with a single and Oliver Palmer capped off the inning with an RBI sacrifice fly. The DPLL lead had ballooned to 11-3 by the time the bottom of the fifth inning rolled around.
Vineyard got two runs back in the bottom half, but DPLL answered right back with a two-RBI knock from Meza to round out their scoring at 13-5. Vineyard would get one run in the sixth, but DPLL secured the win comfortably.
On the mound, Jacob Stock started the game by striking out seven batters in 3 ⅔ innings. After stock, Meza and Matias Scordas closed out the final 2 ⅓ innings.
With the tournament-opening victory, DPLL will now play either Chula Vista or La Mirada on Wednesday.
