The girls high school sand volleyball season opened with Dos Pueblos beating San Marcos 3-2 at the San Marcos on-campus courts on Thursday.

In the match between No. 1 teams, the DP duo of Hawaii commit Portia Sherman and Chloe Hoffman beat Stanford signee Taylor Wilson and Pepperdine-bound Madison Oriskovich in three sets, 21-16, 13-21, 15-9.

“It was awesome,” said San Marcos coach Tina Brown of the match-up. “We had four college-bound athletes on court one absolutely battling it out.”

Erin Curtis and Natalie Flint of the Charges pulled out a three-set win in the No. 2 position, 18-21, 21-15, 15-12.

San Marcos’s Devyn Brunet and Lily Blankenhorn won at No. 3,  17-21, 21-10, 15-8

Dos Pueblos clinched the team victory with a thrilling three-set victory at the No. 4 spot. Mikayla Cervantes and Anouk Priebe-Garcia outlasted Sierra Chesluk and Annabelle Constable, 19-21, 21-12, 17-15.

“As you can see, the first four pairings were so competitive, going three sets each,” said Brown.

At No. 5, Ashley Posch and Katie Kracke of San Marcos defeated Noel Tsoukalas and Sophia Curtis, 21-1, 21-18.

Anna Blyewicz and Devyn Burnet of the Royals won the extra sixth match over Chargers Ella Molyneux and Anya Grant, 21-8, 21-15.

“This was an awesome start to the beach season,  and we are hoping for lots of games to come in the month of May,” said Brown.
