Shortstop Sierra Laughner made a huge defensive to rob Santa Ynez of a run, and Dos Pueblos’ offensive broke out with 10 hits in an 8-0 Channel League win on Friday.
It was the Chargers’ first win after dropping its first four games.
Down 1-0, Santa Ynez’s Armani Garcia doubled with two outs and Molly Kadlec followed with a hard-hit ball up the middle. Laughner scrambled hard to her left to make a play and get the third out.
The Chargers responded in the bottom of the inning as Briana Castro, Ali Borden and Mikayla Butzke all doubled to give them a 3-0 lead.
That was all the support Borden needed on the mound. She allowed four hits, struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter.
Jessica Reveles hit a two-run single in the sixth inning.
Mia Reveles, Castro each went 2 for 3 and Borden drove in two runs for DP.
“Armani is a dangerous pitcher. She had 17 strikeouts against us in a game last year, so we were well aware of what she could do,” DP coach Mike Gerken said. “But our girls have put a lot of time in on their hitting at it paid off for us today. I’m especially proud of Mia Reveles for the work she’s put in to become a weapon from the left side. Her two hits today were perfectly executed.”
