Dos Pueblos rolled in the first set against Newbury Park on Tuesday, but the Chargers scrambled the rest of the night to earn a 25-8, 25-23, 27-25 girls volleyball sweep in a non-league match at Sovine Gym.

“Tonight was a roller coaster of a match, with some extreme highs and some really challenging situations,” said DP coach Megan O’Carroll. “I commend the girls for grinding it out and battling down the stretch to complete the sweep.”

Senio Mikayla Butzke was the catalyst for the Chargers. She recorded 28 assists, 12 digs, five blocks and six kills. Portia Sherman put away nine kills and picked up 14 digs, and Becky McKinny had seven kills, four blocks and an ace.

O’Carroll said the play of Sarah Jung and Jessica Yamasaki was key to the win.

“Sarah Jang was an incredible spark plug for us and make some big defensive moves,” she said. “Jessica Yamasaki came in at 20-24 (in the third set) and served tough to tie the set up. Everyone got in the match to contribute and helped pulled out the win.”

Dos Pueblos is 2-1.
