Dos Pueblos dropped its softball opener against a strong Rio Mesa team, 12-2, on Frriday at DP.

Rio Mesa’s Alexa Martinez hit two home runs to lead the Spartans’ attack.

Dos Pueblos both its runs in the third inning. Lacy Spear walked and scored after back-to-back singles by Mia and Jessica Reveles. Mia Reveles scored the second run on a perfectly executed delay steal by Jessica Reveles, cutting the Rio Mesa lead to 4-2.

Freshman Georgia Wilson and Bella Nuno shared pitching duties for the Chargers.

“It’s a tall order to ask a freshman to step in against such a talented team in her first ever high school game, but Georgia pitched exceptionally and showed a lot of courage, as did Bella,” Gerken said. “I’m not sure how many teams we will face that are going to hit it like Rio did today.”

DP is on spring break and returns to action against Righetti on March 29.
