A strong defense helped the Dos Pueblos boys to a 25-16, 25-21, 25-19 sweep of visiting Oak Park at Sovine Gym Friday.

Senior captain and libero Finn Hastings controlled the back row with 13 “stellar” digs, Charger coach Ehren Hug said.

“We were playing defense with some real passion tonight,” Hug said. “Oak Park exited the Dos Pueblos Invitational after being beaten by eventual champion Santa Barbara in the semifinals, so we were prepared for a competitive opponent tonight. We came out of the gates with a ton of energy and rode that all the way to the victory. The coaching staff and I were pleased with the continual progression and competitive grit we’ve been seeing lately.”

Troy Fitzgerald and Grant Hughes had 10 kills apiece, with Hughes adding eight blocks, five digs and 17 assists. Fitzgerald added four digs, three blocks and 14 assists. Micah Goss had nine kills and three digs.

Dos Pueblos hosts Laguna Blanca on Friday, April 8, for Senior Night.

The seven seniors to be honored are Luke Gilner, Finn Hastings, Diesel Pirman, Troy Fitzgerald, Parker Randolph, Kyvon Reeder, and Reid Sisney.

The Chargers are now 12-4 overall and 3-2 in Channel League play.

Bishop Diego 3, Buena 0

The Bishop Diego boys traveled to Buena High School Friday and came away with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-9 sweep of the Bulldogs.

Liam Flood led the Cardinal attack with nine kills, and Anthony Eck had six kills on eight swings. Rylan Bohnett was very active on defense, leading the team with 12 digs.

Bishop Diego improves to 8-16 overall, and 4-3 in the Tri-Valley League.

“The guys were still a bit bitter over last night’s match (a loss to Foothill Tech), and they came out and played one of their cleaner games of the season,” Cardinals coach Dillan Bennett said. “Our passing and setting continues to improve, and our errors were acceptable tonight. We have a big week ahead, and the guys are excited to get back in the gym Monday.”
