The driver of a small sedan died from injuries she received in a Santa Maria crash earlier this week.

At about 7 p.m. Tuesday, Santa Maria police and fire personnel were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on East Alvin Avenue near Beth Court, Traffic Bureau Sgt. Michael McGehee said.

Officers determined that the driver, a woman from Santa Maria, made an unsafe turning movement and was driving on the wrong side of the road when her vehicle slammed head-on into a truck.

An American Medical Response ambulance took the woman, who had a major head injury, to Marian Regional Medical Center, where she was transported by medical helicopter to Santa  Barbara Cottage Hospital.

The driver, whose name and age weren’t released, later died from her injuries, police said Thursday night.

The truck’s driver, who remained on the scene until officers arrived, was uninjured, McGehee said.

Officers from the Santa Maria Police Department Traffic Bureau were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Anyone with further information is urged to contact the Traffic Bureau at 805.928.3781 x2277.
