The body of a woman who apparently drowned in Lake Cachuma was found Sunday not long after authorities began searching for her.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire and Sheriff’s departments were dispatched to the Lake Cachuma Recreation Area on a report of a missing visitor, possibly in the water, fire Capt. Daniel Bertucelli said.

A Calstar medical helicopter along with a county Fire Department helicopter and water rescue personnel also responded to the incident at the park off Highway 154 in the Santa Ynez Valley.

A diver — a county fire captain — located the victim, a 30-year-old woman, in approximately 20 feet of water, Bertucelli told Noozhawk.

“The patient was brought to the surface, emergency medical care was given and, unfortunately, the patient was declared dead at the scene,” he added.

The drowning does not appear to be suspicious, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Raquel Zick.

The woman’s identity is being withheld until her family has been notified, Zick said.
