One person was injured Wednesday in a fire that erupted in the backyard living quarters of a home on Santa Barbara’s Eastside, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
Firefighters responded shortly after 6 a.m. to a report of a residential structure fire on the 600 block of Chiquita Road, Battalion Chief Robert Mercado told Noozhawk.
Crews found a fire in the outbuilding to the rear of the home, and were able to pull a hose line and extinguish the flames within 10-15 minutes, Mercado said.
One resident was transported to the hospital for an injury that occurred while attempting to douse the flames with a fire extinguisher, he added.
The fire caused approximately $25,000 in damages, which included the backyard living quarters and a neighboring fence, Mercado said.
Three engines, a truck, and a battalion chief were deployed to the scene.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
