San Marcos pitchers Emmett Speake and Aidan Mandel combined for 13 strikeouts to tame Santa Ynez 7-2 in a Channel League win on Tuesday.
Offensively, Mandel and Darren Orlando both had two RBIs for the Royals, Joaquin Sandoval doubled, scored twice and added an RBI, and Speake was 1-for-1 with three walks and a run scored.
Brendon Cekada had a hit and a walk with an RBI and a run scored. Caden Hodina walked three times.
For the Pirates, Mikey Gills had a double while Caleb Cassidy and JT Padfield drove in the two runs.
Speake went five innings with nine strikeouts and Mandel had four strikeouts in two innings.
The Pirates are now 7-2 overall and 1-1 in league. The Royals are 5-3 and 2-0.
San Marcos plays Friday at Santa Barbara.
