San Marcos pumped up the energy in the second quarter and stormed past Santa Ynez, 53-27, in a Channel League boys basketball game on Tuesday at Maury Halleck Gym.

“We got some great energy in the second quarter which helped us get a 12-point lead going into halftime,” said San Marcos coach Jelani Hicks.

The Royals kept the pressure on the Pirates in the second half and allowed only 10 points.

“A great team effort,” said Hicks.

San Marcos spread the scoring around, with Isaiah Hicks leading the way with nine points. Tony Njia and Will Pace each scored eight points and Max Sheldon added seven.

The Royals (10-9, 2-1 in league) play at Dos Pueblos on Friday at 7 p.m.
