Bishop Diego roared out to a 22-3 first-quarter lead en route to a 74-26 victory at Downey-Calvary Chapel in a CIF-SS Division 5A girls basketball second-round playoff game on Satruday.

The second-seeded Cardinals had 13 players score points, led by 12 from Elliot Redkey and 10 each from Julia De La Cruz and Clara McDonald.

“It was just a great 32 minutes of basketball by the girls,” said coach Jeff Burich. “We were able to rotate five players at a time and keep the players fresh.”

Bishop (21-8) went up 8-0 before Calvary Chapel took a shot and led 46-9 by halftime.

“Elliot and Julia set the tone offensively. As a team, we shot the ball very well and played very unselfishly. Sophie Benoit and Siena Urzua made several great passes,” said Burich.

Bishop will play a quarterfinal game Wednesday at Woodcrest Christian in Riverside.
