Firefighters were able to quickly douse a vegetation fire that broke out near Solvang on Sunday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched shortly after 12:30 p.m. to the fire on Fredensborg Canyon Road near Del Prado Road, about a half-mile north of Highway 246/Mission Drive, where they found a grassy hillside on fire.

They were able to limit the area charred to about a half an acre, fire officials said.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

Fire officials said the incident is a reminder that June 1 is the deadline to remove brush and vegetation from around homes and other structures to create “defensive space.”
