Firefighters responded Tuesday afternoon to two small vegetation fires burning west of Santa Maria, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
The blazes were reported shortly before 5 p.m. off West Betteravia Road, fire Capt. Daniel Bertucelli said.
One fire was at Ray Road, and the other one was near Stinton Road.
Crews on scene said the fires were burning in heavy brush, and were expected to blacken 5 acres combined, Bertucelli said.
A full vegetation-fire response was dispatched, including units from Santa Maria and the city of Guadalupe.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area.
Cause of the fires was under investigation.
