Firefighters responded Monday afternoon to a vegetation fire that broke out near the Tajiguas Landfill on the Gaviota Coast.
The blaze was reported shortly after 2:30 p.m. in the area of the landfill, which is in a canyon west of Refugio State Beach.
The fire blackened 7-8 acres, according to Capt. Dave Zaniboni of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
It appeared to have been sparked by a bird striking a power line, Zaniboni said.
Crews were able to quickly stop the forward progress of the flames, and remained on scene doing mop-up.
A county helicopter was called in to assist in battling the blaze.
No injuries were reported.
