Crews quickly attacked a small vegetation fire burning west of Santa Maria on Monday afternoon.
Shortly after noon, personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to fire in the area of Point Sal and Santos roads near Casmalia, according to Capt. Daniel Bertucelli.
The fire reportedly burned 3 acres and was moving slowly near the Casmalia Resources Superfund Site.
Crews responding to the blaze from Old Town Orcutt reported seeing light smoke, prompting initiation of a full vegetation fire response, Bertucelli said.
Commanders canceled bulldozers and aircraft initially requested to help crews on the ground fight the fire.
Just before 1 p.m., firefighters said they had stopped the 3-acre fire’s forward progress and expected to remain at the scene for two hours conducting mop-up operations.
No one was injured by the fire and no structures were threatened.
The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Monday, Bertucelli added.
Additional information was not immediately available.
