Freshman Savannah Arcuri was brought up from the frosh/soph team and played a strong game in goal for Santa Barbara High in a 2-0 non-league girls soccer loss at Ventura on Tuesday.
Arcuri made seven saves for a shorthanded Dons squad against a solid Ventura squad. The Cougars scored on a long-distance shot into the upper corrner in the 52nd minute and added a second goal on a deflected shot in the 70th minute.
“Savannah was a warrior tonight, playing up two teams, playing out of position and facing the most immense amount of adversity,” coach Silas Fallstitch said. “Regardless of all this, she showed up and had a huge impact for our varsity team.”
Arcuri received help center back Brianna Lopez, who won several indivudal battles and cleared the ball from dangerous positions.
“She held our back four together through sheer will,” said Fallstitch.
The Dons (0-2-1) return to action Monday, Dec. 2 at Moorpark.
