Bishop Diego’s Galilea De La Cruz scored 29 points to lead the Cardinals to their 14 win of the season, 44-26 over Vaughn Wednesday at the Avalon Classic on Catalina Island.

The Cardinals led by just five points at the half after being up by as much as 13. The team then shut out Vaughn in the third quarter to widen the spread to 33-19 going into the fourth quarter.

“Citlali Morales had a great defensive game, and it was nice to see Gali shoulder the scoring,” Bishop Diego coach Jeff Burich said. “She left at least another 10 points on the floor.

“We need to take care of the ball and make better decisions on offense. We communicated well on defense, especially in the second half, and that got us the win tonight.”

The Cardinals are now 14-1 overall and play two games on Thursday at the Classic.
