An 11-year-old girl who hurt herself in a 10-foot fall on a Santa Ynez Valley trail was flown by helicopter Saturday to a local hospital.

Santa Barbara County firefighters were dispatched just after 2 p.m. to the Nojoqui Falls Park trail area after the girl fell 10 feet on loose rocks and injured her leg, fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

Firefighters employed a utility task vehicle to move the girl to the landing zone to be loaded onto the county’s Copter 3.

She was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, but her medical condition was not known.

This is the second time in three weeks that county firefighters have rescued an injured hiker at the Nojoqui Falls area.

On June 26, firefighters also used a utility task vehicle to rescue an injured man.

Safechuck said the county Fire Department has 11 UTVs in its fleet to help crews access remote areas.
