Every year, Girls Rock SB (GRSB) fundraises to secure $100,000-plus for scholarships, allowing the nonprofit to bring as many under-resourced youth as possible to its flagship program, Amplify Sleep Away Camp. Due to COVID-19, this year that mission was the most difficult it’s ever been.

While GRSB didn’t reach its $100,000 goal for 2021 camp scholarships, the youth-focused organization got closer than it thought possible, thanks to new partner Sonos, which contributed $20,000 so GRSB could establish the Sonos Soundwaves Scholarship.

The scholarship provided more than 20 girls and gender-expansive youth with grants to attend Amplify Sleep Away Camp. The camp takes place every summer in the Topa Topa Mountains at Ojai Valley School’s Upper Campus.

“Every child deserves access to quality music education, which provides a crucial creative outlet and has measurable outcomes in school performance,” said Deji Olukotun, director of policy and corporate social responsibility at Sonos. “We’re proud to partner with Girls Rock SB to provide this unique immersive experience for the next generation of girls, who are underrepresented in music and sound production.”

Fundraising has already begun to ensure GRSB meets its ambitious scholarship fund goals for Amplify Sleep Away Camp 2022. Those interested in contributing can learn more at www.girlsrocksb.org, call 805-699-5247 or email girlsrocksb@gmail.com.
