The City of Goleta soon will be enforcing 90-minute timed parking restrictions in Old Town Goleta in an attempt to improve parking availability and turnover.
Beginning this spring, street parking along Hollister Avenue in Old Town between Orange Avenue and Kinman Avenue, as well as the first block of side streets, will be restricted to 90 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except for holidays. After the 90 minutes, the driver will need to move their vehicle at least one block to avoid a parking citation.
The city also said that red curbs, indicating no parking zones, will be added to the following intersections with Hollister Avenue to improve sight distance — Orange Avenue, Magnolia Avenue, Pine/Nectarine Avenue, Tecolote Avenue, Rutherford Avenue, Magnolia Avenue and Gaviota Street, and Pine Avenue and Gaviota Street.
Yellow curbs indicating commercial loading/unloading zones also will be added along portions of Pine Avenue, Tecolote Avenue and Rutherford Street.
According to a press release from the city, the new red curbs will result in the loss of 13 parking spaces, but the Old Town Hollister Avenue Interim Striping Project, set to begin construction this summer, will supplement those spaces and more with angled parking.
The city has not said when exactly the timed parking restrictions will begin enforcement, but signs will be posted ahead of time.
