The dust has finally settled on the District 63 12-under tournament, and it is Goleta Valley South Little League that has taken first place.
After a nail-biter on Tuesday between GVSLL and Dos Pueblos Little League, GVSLL sealed the deal on Friday at the GVSLL complex with a convincing 15-4 win in five innings.
“It was great to see them bounce back, especially being down 4-0. The boys really buckled down,” said GVSLL head coach Rob Brennan.
Initially, it was DPLL that seemed to pick up right where it left off, erupting for four runs in the top of the first inning.
But wasting no time, GVSLL answered right back in the bottom of the first and matched DPLL’s four runs. In the second, the team tacked on two more behind timely RBIs from William Wrenn and Noel Vasquez.
A Graham Millington double to left field, a Josh Lopez RBI and a 2-RBI base hit from Wrenn meant three more runs on the board for GVSLL in the third frame, and a 9-4 advantage.
While DPLL did show life and was able to put together a few hits here and there, GVSLL did not let up.
In the fourth inning, Vasquez had his second hit of the game and both Titus Fernandez and Millington drove in runs.
The fifth frame was the final nail in the coffin, as GVSLL was able to tally three more scores, with Noah Robin’s 2-RBI base hit being the closer.
DPLL finishes the District 63 tournament as the runner-ups after forcing this second championship game with the win on Tuesday.
GVSLL will continue playing in the next level of the 12-under bracket.
