A carjacking suspect from Grover Beach was arrested after a crash in Guadalupe on New Year’s Eve.
At 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Grover Beach police were dispatched for a report of a carjacking at Seventh Street and Longbranch Avenue in southern San Luis Obispo County.
Officers learned that a man in his 30s had stolen a dark gray 2016 Toyota Camry sedan with California license plate number 7PFB391.
Less than an hour later, personnel from the Guadalupe Fire Department and Police Department were dispatched to a vehicle accident in the 5600 block of West Main Street.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a single vehicle with heavy damage to the front end of the car, Guadalupe firefighters said.
Grover Beach police confirmed that the crash involved the vehicle from the carjacking.
The driver, a 27-year-old man, received minor injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Grover Beach police said.
Alcohol and excessive speed were suspected as factors in the crash, authorities said.
The suspect, Luis Enrique Lopez Ortiz of Anaheim, was arrested and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of carjacking and auto theft, Grover Beach police said Wednesday.
