Two people were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 33 south of Highway 166 on Friday afternoon.

Shortly before 3 p.m., personnel from the California Highway Patrol, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies responded to the scene of the crash just south of the Santa Barbara County line, according to CHP Officer Tim Pennington from the Fort Tejon office.

The incident, which also may have involved a vehicle fire, remained under investigation, Pennington said.

Authorities summoned a member of the coroner’s office, reportedly from Ventura County because of the location of the crash.

Emergency personnel also dealt with poor cellphone and radio reception in the remote area, hampering communications, Pennington added.

Highway 33 between Quatal Canyon and Lockwood Valley was expected to remain closed for at least two hours.
