Apples to Zucchini Cooking School will offer six holiday-themed, hands-on cooking classes in December at their teaching kitchen, 2300 Garden St., Santa Barbara. Proceeds from the classes will benefit Apples to Zucchini’s (AtoZ) partnership programs for nonprofits that serve local youth.
Among the classes for families (adults with children, ages 10 and up) are: pasta-making, taught by Italian food specialist Julia Cushing; Healthy Holiday Cooking with Dr. Erin Presant, DO; and make-and-take tamales with Chef Cris Garcia showing how to make tamales to take home for Christmas Day.
For the adult classes, first up is sourdough-bread making, taught by AtoZ instructor Jeff King. Then Chef Julia Cushing returns to teach a multi-course Italian Christmas dinner with paired wines.
For kids only, AtoZ is offering a beginners’ baking class in which young students learn basic baking skills and make their own Pumpkin Coffee Cake to take home for Christmas Day.
“We’re very excited to offer these holiday classes to the community. December’s going to be a fun month in our kitchen,” said King, AtoZ program coordinator.
“There are so many holidays and celebrations this time of year,” said Nancy Martz, executive director. “And as the days get shorter and colder, it’s fun to be in a warm toasty kitchen together.”
