Lompoc fire crews responded to a report of a structure fire in the 500 block of North Second Street in Lompoc shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday.

Lompoc firefighters were assisted by crews from Santa Barbara County Fire and the Vandenberg Air Force Base Fire Department.

Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke coming from a single-story, single-family home, and the fire was coming from a bedroom area.

Before making entry, the crews found that the two residents and their animals had safely escaped the fire.

Crews were able to make an aggressive interior attack and contain the fire to the bedroom. Exposure lines were placed to protect an adjacent home.

The fire was knocked down after 10 minutes, and crews remained on the scene for two hours to assist with salvage and overhaul.

The Red Cross responded to provide assistance to the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
