Ila Lane recorded a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds and led four players in double-digit scoring as UCSB won its women’s basketball season opener, 73-61, at Santa Clara on Monday.

Lane made 7 of 12 shots and had seven offensive rebounds.

Anya Choice shot 4 of 6 from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers, and scored 13 points. Alexis Tucker had 12 points  and seven rebounds, and Taylor finished with 10 points.

Alyssa Marin had five assists before fouling out.

The Gauchos got good play off the bench from Kennedy Johnson who scored eight points in 14 minutes.

UCSB shot 45% from the floor (28-62) and 5-15 on three-pointers. The team made 12 of 14 free throws.

Santa Clara’s Tess Heal led all scorers with 28 points.

UCSB went on a 14-1 run and outscored the Broncos 23-14 in the second quarter to take a 41-28 halftime lead. Mole hit back-to-back threes to help the Gauchos expand their lead to 59-43 after three quarters.

UCSB returns home Thursday to play Pepperdine.
