A man who was shot in the shoulder showed up at a Lompoc hospital as police were investigating reports from residents who heard a series of gunshots early Friday morning, according to Lompoc police.

At approximately 3 a.m., officers responded to the alley between the 700 blocks of North Third and North Fourth streets after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls regarding a series of gunshots, police Sgt. Bryan Dillard said.

Police found several small-caliber shell casings in the alley, but could not locate other evidence of a shooting after an extensive search of the immediate area, Dillard added

Approximately 30 minutes later, a 26-year-old man showed up at the Lompoc Valley Medical Center seeking treatment for a single gunshot wound to his shoulder, Dillard said.

However, the victim provided very limited information regarding how the injury occurred, saying he was walking in the area when he heard the shots and then felt an impact to his shoulder.

The victim, whose name wasn’t released, also told police he did not see his assailant, according to Dillard.

Anyone with information about this incident can contact the Lompoc police at 805.736.2341.
