Bishop Diego’s Jack Stowe pitched a complete game two-hitter to win a 1-0 pitchers’ duel over Milken Community in a first-round CIF-SS Division 6 playoff game Thursday.
The Cardinals’ Kaden Guron knocked in the game’s only run in the second inning, scoring Ryan Rheinschild. Stowe, who walked just three batters, made that run hold.
“This was a great win for the program,” Bishop coach Pete Stathopoulos said, “Jack was commanding his pitches really well today and was able to keep his pitch count down. He did a great job attacking the hitters and getting ahead of them early, and our defense did a great job behind him.”
Gabe Martinez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single for the Cardinals, and Evon Weeks 2-for-4 with a double and single.
“Guron came up clutch early on and we were able to hold on,” Stathopoulos said. “It was a fun game. We are really proud of our guys.”
The Cardinals, now 9-9, move on to a second round game against Hesperia Christian (17-4) on Tuesday.
